Welcome to Doodle Companions!
Before we tell you all about who we are and what we do, it’s even more important to tell you what we are NOT…
We are NOT full-time breeders. We do NOT operate a kennel. We are NOT a puppy mill. We are NOT irresponsible breeders. We do NOT breed our pets without doing our research, comparing genetics and being sure that we are improving the breed. For now, SOME people will argue whether “doodles” are a legitimate breed because AKC does not recognize them yet. We know that they will come to be recognized as a “new” breed in the near future. For that reason, and many more, we follow legitimate breeding practices as if they are already a recognized breed.
Now that we’ve clarified all that, allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Lisa and Ron Arbuckle and we absolutely love Poodles and Doodles!
In the mid-’80s through the mid-’90s, my father was a highly respected hobby breeder, and trainer, of Rottweilers and Dobermans in the Midwest. Other breeders and police departments seeking K-9 trainable pups would come from all over the country to purchase his pups and seek his advice. I grew up helping him with all aspects of the care and training of our dogs and their pups. I learned much of what I know from that experience but filed that knowledge to the back of my mind after I married and started a family of my own. A few years ago my youngest child graduated high school and my husband and I found ourselves empty-nesters. Long story, short…we found Sophie and Freya and they became our new babies.
Sophie & Freya are members of our family and we love them dearly. So do many of our friends and extended family… and that’s what led us to decide to breed them. Many friends and family expressed interest in having one of their puppies and because of my knowledge of how to breed and train dogs the right way, it seemed a natural conclusion that we would breed Sophie and Freya. After learning about the newest genetics research and possibilities with AI (artificial insemination), the scientist in me was intrigued and we decided to focus on improving the doodle breed through careful breeding. To do that, we decided to focus on producing some of the rarest colors (Chocolate, Caramel, Red) and improve on the intelligence and health aspects of the breed.
Our Goldendoodles and Labradoodles are not a business; they’re our hobby. We only have the two females (and hopefully, a guardian home for another female and male in the future) so puppies are only available occasionally. However, when they are available, they will be some of the healthiest, smartest, most beautiful, and loving doodles you will ever find.
You will find additional information about Sophie and Freya and how to adopt one of their little ones on this website. If interested in adding a Goldendoodle or Labradoodle puppy to your family, there is a waiting list available. While we don’t put prospective families through a background check and piles of paperwork, we are very concerned with, and committed to, finding loving homes for every pup. You will be required to fill out an application, make a deposit, and sign a care contract.
While I would rather not ship the puppies, we are open to the possibility. We are also willing to drive a pup to you, if within 300 miles, for an additional fee. We encourage all applicants to see the pups in person prior to adoption but realize that this isn’t always possible.
We are located in North Port, Florida which is about 30 minutes south of Sarasota on the Gulf side.
